Custom regulations
India follows a strict customs rules and regulation. Tourist from abroad are allowed to carry the goods that to India which are without incurring custom duty.

All personal objects are set to be duty free. Professional objects and articles are restricted to duty free and they can be imported duty free if the traveler gives a written statement mentioning that these will be re-exported.

For the purpose of easy custom clearance of the passengers there are two channel systems. The one is the green channel for passengers who do not have any dutiable goods and the other is the red channel for the passengers who have dutiable goods.

The following are the goods allowed to import into India:

  • 200 cigarettes
  • 250g of tobacco
  • Wine and alcoholic liquor up to 1 liter
  • Goods for personal use
  • Pets like dogs, cats, and birds that have a health certificate
  • Medicines of reasonable quantities
  • Cash cheques up to US $ 10,000
The goods that are allowed to the non-residents of India are permitted only if the traveler is allowed for a stay of 24 hours or for a maximum period of six months

The prohibited Imports are:

  • Livestock
  • Live plants
  • Illicit drugs
  • Weapons
  • Gold bullion
  • Silver bullion
